About the Author
- Rod Kierkegaard Jr
- Rod Kierkegaard, Jr is a writer and cartoonist best known in the US for his comic strip, "Rock Opera", which ran as a regular feature in Heavy Metal Magazine during the 1980s. From the Lambiek.net website:
"The controversial Rod Kierkegaard Jr. is the artist of works like 'The X-Generation', 'Shooting Stars', 'Rock Opera' and most recently 'Joysuit', a comic series entirely made on the computer. Kierkegaard had his comic work published in magazine Heavy Metal, and also works in the cinematographic field, as well as the field of computer designing."
He is the author of two French graphic novel collections, "Stars Massacre", (released in the US as "Shooting Stars") and "Rock Monstres", both published by Editions Albin Michel, Paris. His first novel, “Obama Jones & The Logic Bomb”, is published by:

Will Rock Opera make a return?
My new novel, "Obama Jones & The Logic Bomb" is basically a futuristic retelling of RO; the story I'm writing on this blog will eventually have uploads of old black and white and unpublished(by Heavy Metal)episodes of RO. And I hope to reissue the full color HM run of RO--nearly 7 years worth--soon. But new stuff? I'm too old!
If I may respectfully disagree with the author...
Can't help feeling you're doing OJ a slight injustice describing it as a retelling of RO. I'm about a quarter of the way through and while it has the same unique voice of the Rod Kierkegaard of a quarter century ago – as brilliantly, drolly deadpan as ever – and the mad collagist's sense of a ludic, hyper-real, absurdist modernity, it seems to me clearly a stand-alone work with its own narrative.

Thanks, Rod. That scan actually felt a bit like being given a fix of some sort. Great to see an early iteration of the Black Pandas, who eventually made it into my favourite ever episode of RO.

Rock Opera...i just spent close to $200.00 on old HMs ( near mint ) to get my fix of RO. Any time soon can we expect the reissue?
